Afghanistan will ask for more control of international aid pledged to reconstruct the war-torn country at an international conference in Kabul to be held on 20th of this month. More than 60 countries including many foreign ministers will be participating in the conference.<br/><br/>Afghan finance minister Omar Zalikhwal briefing about the conference this evening said that it is not a conference to pledge more funds by international community. He said there is lot of scope for improvement for international aid to be channeled through Afghan government. <br/><br/>The minister said the Afghan government will present its programmes for various sectors and will urge the international community to fund these programmes by pledges already made. Mr. Zalikhwal said that up to 80 percent of international aid can be realigned with Afghan programmes and priorities. <br/><br/>Many critics accuse the government of squandering millions in foreign aid, but Afghan government says most waste occurs on development projects outside official control and wants at least 50 percent of aid to be channeled through it.
