Afghanistan government and UN agencies based in the country are sending relief materials to neighboring Pakistan to assist flood victims. The Afghan aid and the relief materials consists of 4.5 tons of medicine, a team of 23 doctors, and nine helicopters sent to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province to facilitate rescue efforts in the region. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan sent about 35,000 kg of high-energy biscuits and 5,250 kg of oral rehydration salts to its office in Islamabad to be distributed to the affected communities around Pakistan.UNICEF Representative for Afghanistan Peter Crowley said they obtained permission from the Afghan government to re-export supplies they originally got into the country. He said that the aid given to Pakistan will not compromise its ability to respond to emergencies in Afghanistan.Meanwhile, UN agencies continue to disperse aid through the Afghan National Disaster Management Agency in areas of Afghanistan hit by floods in recent weeks. More than a hundred people have died in different parts of the country due to flood situation.
