Afghanistan government has pressed with its demand for increasing the foreign aid spending through its ministries in a meeting held recently with its main donors. Economy Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal said the foreign nations don't always spend their money on projects which Afghans want such as energy, mining, agriculture and small industries related to farming. He asserted that the government is not going to waste the money adding that there is accountability with that money and the money is not being lost. According to the Afghan Ministry of Finance, 77 percent of the 29 billion US dollars in international aid spent in Afghanistan since 2001 has been disbursed on projects with little or no input from Afghan government officials. US envoy to Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke, who attending the meeting earlier this week, acknowledged too much US aid has been lost through bloated contracts and by dribbling money away that never reached the people. He said an enormous amount of the money was dissipated through the contracts and the double-contracts that were in place.
