The bilateral trade between India and Afghanistan got a boost today with the first shipment of Afghan apples from capital Kabul today. The first export of Afghan apples was inaugurated by Afghanistan minister for agriculture Mohammad Asif Rahimi in presence of Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Mr. Jayant Prasad and other high-level dignitaries. The agriculture minister termed it a historical occasion saying commercial relations with friendly countries like India will strengthen Afghan prosperity and peace. He informed that Afghan farmers will receive more money for their exports to India compared to neighboring Pakistan because of cheap transport rates of Air India.The airlines have agreed to transport up to 75 metric tones of apple per week at a rate of around 10 rupees per kilogram only. Indian Ambassador Mr. Jayant Prasad said India and Afghanistan have a lot of scope for cooperation in the field of horticulture. He said that India has contributed to development of agriculture in the war-torn country thorough several projects.
