Afghanistan celebrates Eid

In Afghanistan, Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in different parts of the country. The day marks the beginning of three-day celebrations where people greet and feast with their families and friends. This day also marks the end of the Haj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Security remains a concern but that does not appear to disrupt most Afghans from celebrating Eid.<br/><br/>President Hamid Karzai in his message congratulated people on the occasion and called upon those involved in violence to join the reconciliation process. However, Taliban leader Mullah Omar has rejected the call earlier saying no talks are possible till foreign forces leave the country.<br/>
