Afghanistan President, Mr. Hamid Karzai has received 54.6 per cent of total votes in the preliminary result announced this evening. His closest rival, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has got 27.8 per cent votes in the total turnout of around 5.7 million. The percentage of voter turnout is estimated to be 38.7 per cent, much less than 70 per cent turnout during last Presidential election in 2004. The preliminary results were announced today after a delay of more than ten days on charges of fraud. The results are subject to outcome of hundreds of complaints and recounting at around 10 percent of polling centers.
