Afghan President Hamid Karzai and UN Secretary General Ban-Ki- Moon today opened an international conference in Kabul aimed at charting a new course for Afghanistan future.President Hamid Karzai called upon international community to innovate its vision for common fight against the enemy of terrorism so that Afghanistan reemerges a peaceful meeting place of civilizations.Unveiling an ambitious agenda for country’s security and development, President said that his country will take charge of its security and law and order by 2014. He asked the international conference to channel aid money through his government to fund national programs that could transform the lives of the Afghan people.UN Secretary General Ban-ki- Moon in his address termed the conference as true beginning of Afghan leadership. He accepted that insufficient consideration was given to Afghan people in the past and hoped that the conference will set it right.US Secretary of state Hillary Clinton stressed for alignment of international aid along with national programs of Afghanistan. She mentioned of the July 2011 deadline for beginning of withdrawal of US troops saying it will be responsible, conditions-based transition.The delegates include representatives from 57 countries, including 40 foreign ministers and 11 representatives from regional and international organizations. Meanwhile,India has reiterated its commitment to ensure the stability, prosperity and development of Afghanistan and its people. Addressing the International Conference on Afghanistan in Kabul today, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said that India is committed to the unity, integrity and independence of Afghanistan underpinned by democracy, cohesive pluralism and free from external interference. He said that India has contributed to these goals through Development Partnership, which is being implemented entirely in accordance with the priorities of the Afghan Government and people. The minister said that the ultimate aim of Indian assistance program is to strengthen the capacity of the Afghan state and people to stand on their own feet in the areas of governance and services for the Afghan people. He said any peace and reconciliation efforts to stabilise the war-torn nation must be fully Afghan-led and Afghan-owned and sought an end to sustenance and sanctuaries for terrorists from outside. Mr. Krishna asserted that the international community must learn lessons from past experiences at negotiating with fundamentalist and extremist organizations and ensure that any peace process is conducted in an inclusive and transparent manner. The minister on his two -day visit to Afghanistan met President Hamid Karzai, national security advisor Rangin Dadfar Spanta and minister of mines Waheedullah Shahrani. The latter called upon Indian companies to invest in extraction of mineral deposits of Afghanistan.
