In Afghanistan, security forces lead by Afghan army killed several insurgents and detained many others while searching for suspected insurgent leaders in Laghman and Wardak provinces on Wednesday. A Joint Command release issued in Kabul says the security forces encountered insurgents armed with a sophisticated weapons and grenades. Assessing a threat, the security forces fired at them killing many of them. A insurgent leader was also killed in Baghlan province during an air strike. Security forces detained two insurgent leaders and many of their associates during search operations in Balakh and Kandhar provinces. They were responsible for making and planting roadside bombs and coordinating attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.In Sangin district of Helmand province the coalition patrol discovered a huge cache of improvised explosive device-making materials today. The cache consisted of 3,720 litres of hydrogen peroxide, 453 kilograms of sodium carbonate and 181 kilograms of powdered carbon.
