In Tamil Nadu, at the Koodankulam nuclear power plant, the report of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board's Expert Committee is awaited to start loading of enriched uranium.
In Idinthakarai and many parts of Toothukudi district, protesters stood in sea water for the second day today in protest against the decision to load enriched uranium into the nuclear reactor of the Koodankulam Power Plant.
Our correspondent reports that in Idinthakarai, near Koodankulam hundreds of protesters stood in sea water for the second day today.
They were protesting against the decision to load enriched uranium fuel into the nuclear reactor of Koodankulam nuclear plant. According to Koodankulam nuclear power plant Site Director, once the AERB report is submitted it will take only eight days to load the enriched uranium rods into the nuclear reactor.
After that within a month or two the much awaited electricity generation will start in the nuclear power plant.
Several expert committees led by Dr Muthunayagam, Dr M R Srinivasan and former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam vouchsafed for the safety of the Koodankulam Nuclear plant.
With protests continuing on the one side and the government trying to convince the protesters AERB experts are reviewing the safety aspects of the nuclear power plant. The moment they submit the report uploading of enriched uranium will start..
