The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice till noon over the procedural wrangle whether to take up discussion over violence in Gaza or not.
The opposition parties have been insisting since yesterday to take up
the matter for discussion.
But the Government is not in favour to do so saying the discussion over the sensitive matter may affect India’s
relations with the friendly countries, Israel and Palestine.
When the house met this morning, both opposition and the Government stuck to
their stands on the issue.
Chairman Mohammad Hamid Ansari in his ruling said the matter will be
discussed as per the rules but an appropriate date and time will be
fixed after consulting with the Government as the matter is not
listed in today’s business.
The house witnessed arguments and counter arguments between the two sides.
Leader of the Opposition Gulam Nabi Azad demanded taking up the matter
suspending the Question Hour as it is an urgent matter.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu suggested taking up the Question Hour and later the discussion on the Railway Budget.
Amidst uproar, the Chairman adjourned the house initially for 15 minutes and later till 12.
The Rajya Sabha has since resumed business.
