Adjournments in RS over CSAT issue

The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 12 noon. As the House met today, members of the Opposition demanded a response from the government over the issue of the Civil Services Aptitude Test, CSAT, of the Union Public Service Commission, UPSC. They said, as the Government’s assured seven days' time was over, it should respond to the problem of the agitating students. Sharad Yadav of the JD(U) and Naresh Agrawal of the SP demanded an immediate response prior to the question hour.

At this, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Venkaiah Naidu pleaded to the members to cooperate for the question hour to take place and that the government would give its reply on the CSAT after the question hour. However, the members did not relent and noisy scenes continued to hamper the proceedings, at which the Chairperson Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till 12 noon. Earlier, the House was adjourned on the same issue for 15 minutes.

As the House assembled in the morning, a two-minute silence
was observed as a mark of respect to people who lost their lives in the Ambegaon landslide incident in Pune. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said that at the instance of the Prime Minister, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had gone to Pune to ascertain things. He said, the Home Minister will later brief the House on the incident.
