In Assam, various organisations have assured the administration that they will not take up processions, rallies or protest marches, in a bid to restore peace in the state. Talking to AIR, state Home Secretary G D Tripathi said that the government welcomed the decision of these organisations. The state government had recently appealed all political and non-political organisations, not to carry out such activities for at least a month, which may further aggravate the situation, particularly in the districts of Lower Assam. The Government also directed concerned departments to deduct pay and allowances of employees and officials for the days of unauthorised absence from duty during the days of bandhs by various organisations. Meanwhile, the police arrested another 12 persons in Golapara yesterday for indulging in violence during the 12 hours bandh called by All Assam Minority Students Union, last Tuesday. The overall situation in the violence hit districts remained calm. A strict vigil is being maintained by security forces. The state Education department has set Thursday as the deadline to resume classes in violence hit areas. Over 130 educational institutes are being used as relief camps. On the other hand, the North East Frontier Railway will run an additional train between Guwahati and Bangaluru on Saturday to meet the requirement of passengers.
