ADB to provide two loans for improving rural power supply in MP

Asian Development Bank, ADB, will provide two loans worth 251.55 million US dollars , including the grant for improving rural power supply in Madhya Pradesh.The ADB and the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday signed an agreement in New Delhi in this regard. Under the agreement the bank will provide 200 million US dollar loan for power distribution in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh. In a statement the Finance Ministry said that the investment programme is aimed at benefiting over 2.6 million households and would provide new power connections to 1.3 million homes. The loan is part of the first installment of 400 million US dollar assistance from the ADB under Madhya Pradesh Energy Efficiency Improvement Investment Programme.In another agreement, the ADB will extend a loan of 51.55 million US dollars to tackle coastal erosion in Karnataka and Maharashtra. This, too, is the first tranche under the Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Programme for the two states.
