The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has revealed in its chargesheet that Secretary of Adarsh Society R C Thakur, among other accused, had allegedly misled the Maharashtra Government in 2002 into allotting the plot for the construction of the highrise. The accused misled the State by claiming that the local defence authorities had given the go-ahead to the society.
The CBI has filed over 10,000-page chargesheet on July 4 against 13 accused in the case, including former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan. The special CBI Judge will start taking cognizance of the chargesheet on Tuesday.
The CBI is also probing benami transactions relating to 24 of the 103 flats in the Adarsh Society and has sought permission from the High Court to continue with the investigations.
