Adarsh Society scam: political scene hots up in Mumbai as Chavan offers to step down

Tension is mounting in the political atmosphere in Mumbai following Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's proposal to resign over the Adarsh Society controversy. Though Congress party High Command is still to take a decision on Mr. Chavan's resignation, names of Prithviraj Chauhan, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Vilasrao Deshmukh and Narayan Rane are coming up as his possible successors. As reported, Mr. Ashok Chavan met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi yesterday in New Delhi following her summon and offered to resign from the Chief Minister’s post. Meanwhile, opposition party Shiv Sena’s Executive President Uddhav Thackeray said that Chavan has no moral right to continue as the chief minister of the state and should immediately resign. Addressing the media in Mumbai, Thackeray said that proper inquiry should be conducted against all other officers and government servants who were allotted the flats illegally.
