Adarsh Society scam: Ashok Chavan appears before Judicial Commission

Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan today appeared before the two member judicial commission probing the Adarsh Housing Society scam in Mumbai. He is among the 14 accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is probing various irregularities and violation of rules in the construction of the Adarsh Housing Society in South Mumbai.

In its FIR, the CBI has alleged that Ashok Chavan as revenue minister of Maharashtra between 1999 and 2003 had given his consent to the inclusion of civilians in the Adarsh Society which was meant for defense personnel. As a result of his consent his relatives also managed to secure apartments for themselves in the 31 storey Adarsh Society located in the upscale Colaba area in South Mumbai.

Ashok Chavan was accompanied by many of his supporters on his way to depose before the judicial commission this morning in Mumbai amidst tight security and vigilance.
