Adarsh Society land allotment was wrong: former Mumbai Collector

The land where the Adarsh Society was constructed was in possession of the Army and hence its allotment to any society was wrong, former Mumbai Collector Pradeep Vyas told the two-member inquiry panel probing into the Adarsh Society scam on Tuesday. While deposing before the panel, Vyas said that it was correct that when Adarsh applied for allotment of land, the said plot was in possession of the Local Military Authority, hence the land could not have been allotted to anybody without first removing Local Military Authority. Vyas, who is an accused in the FIR lodged by CBI in the scam, also said that since the land was included in the proposed road widening project, allotment should not have been given to the society. However, according to him, the state government did not receive any complaints from the Defence Ministry from the date of allotment of the land to the society till the time when the scam was revealed. Vyas is likely to finish his deposition today.
