In Maharashtra, a special court in Mumbai has rejected the bail plea of seven accused, including former Congress legislator K L Gidwani, in the multi-crore rupee Adarsh housing society scam. Hearing their petition, judge M V Kulkarni said that investigations are at a crucial stage and he was not inclined to grant them bail at this juncture. Besides Gidwani, the other accused who had sought bail were Maharashtra bureaucrat Pradeep Vyas, Retired Major General T K Kaul, Retired Major General A R Kumar, Retired Brigadier M M Wanchoo, Retired Defence Estates Officer R C Thakur and former Deputy Secretary in the Urban Development Department P V Deshmukh. All of them have been remanded to judicial custody till the 17th of April. Meanwhile, Senior Maharashtra bureaucrats Jairaj Phatak and Ramanand Tiwari, who were arrested on Tuesday for their involvement in the Adarsh Society scam, were remanded to police custody till the the 12th of this month.
