Former IAS officer Subhash Lalla, whose kin own a flat in the controversial Adarsh Housing Society in Mumbai has resigned as Member of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission. He met Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Monday and submitted his resignation. The Governor accepted his resignation with immediate effect. Maintaining that he had no role or financial involvement in the purchase of flats in Adarsh society, Mr. Lalla said that he is resigning voluntarily and there is no feeling of guilt or wrongdoing associated with the decision. In his resignation letter, Mr. Lalla said he was deeply hurt by his unfair criticism in the media especially because membership of his relatives in the Adarsh Society was much prior to his coming to Mantralaya in 2000. Earlier last week, the Maharashtra government had sought resignations of Subhash Lalla and Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari for their alleged involvement in the Adarsh Housing scam. Tiwari was Urban Development secretary when the Adarsh file was being processed, while Lalla was secretary to the chief minister.
