Adarsh Scam: Court rejects bail plea of six accused

A special CBI Court in Mumbai today rejected the bail plea of six accused arrested in the Adarsh Society Housing Scam. They include former Mumbai municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak, former secretary of Urban Development Department Ramanand Tiwari, IAS officer Pradeep Vyas, Major General (Retd) T K Kaul, former deputy secretary in Urban Development Department P V Deshmukh and chief promoter of Adarsh Society, Kanhaiyyalal Gidwani.

The bail plea of the six accused arrested were refused on CBI’s claim that investigations were still in progress. While Phatak and Tiwari had sought bail for the first time, other four got their bail pleas rejected for the second time.

The four applicants had sought bail today on the base of the recently submitted interim report by the two member judicial commission which said that the land on which building stands belonged to the state, and not the Defence Ministry.
