The two member judicial commission enquiring into Mumbai’s Adarsh Housing Scam has asked the former chief minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan to appear before it on 30th June. The decision came after Chavan’s counsel filed a fresh application before the panel to allow him to appear on 30th June or after. The application said that Chavan has been named by CBI in their FIR and in view of his requirement in Delhi in a pending proceeding, his deposition before the commission may be deferred.
The commission headed by retired Justice J A Patil accepted Chavan's application and directed him to appear before it on June 30, while disposing of his previous petition seeking exemption. Chavan had on May 22 sought exemption from appearance before the judicial panel, saying he had disclosed everything in the affidavit filed before the panel and had nothing more to add.
