Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan who is in Delhi met the Political Secretary to Congress President Ahmed Patel this morning. He reached the national capital early this morning and will later meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi to clear his position on Adarsh Housing Society controversy in Mumbai. He was summoned to Delhi by the party high command late on Friday after his name cropped up in the controversy. Chavan will also meet senior party leader and Union Minister A K Antony. Ahead of the crucial meeting with the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Gandhi held consultations with the senior party leaders on the issue. Union Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Jairam Ramesh besides party leaders Janardan Dwivedi and Ahmed Patel are among those who met the Congress Chief. AIR correspondent reports that the Congress high command appears to be upset with Chavan whose relatives have reportedly been allotted flats in the Housing Colony Project. Several politicians, former defence services chiefs and other influential people have reportedly been allotted flats in the society. The land, on which the 31 storey building has been constructed in Colaba in Mumbai, was reportedly allotted for Kargil war heroes and widows. The Maharashtra Chief Minister on Friday announced surrender of flats allotted to his relatives. The Defence Minister has directed the army and navy to ascertain the facts about the ownership rights of the land used by the society.
