Defence Minister A K Antony has directed the Army and the Navy to ascertain facts about the ownership rights of the land of the Adarsh Housing Society in Mumbai. Defence Ministry sources said in New Delhi Antony has asked for the status of land as to whether the plot was a defence property and whether the high rise structure that has come on the land in Colaba area casts a shadow on national security. Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has said that the land on which the Adarsh Housing Society was built in Mumbai did not belong to Defence. He also said he had no role in the development of the Adarsh society.In another development, three ex-chiefs today said they will return the houses of the society if they are meant to be given to the families of Kargil war martyrs. A statement on this was issued by former Navy chief Admiral Madhavendra Singh on behalf of himself and the two former Army chiefs Generals Deepak Kapoor and N C Vij. He said it was never their intention to deprive anyone of their dues.AIR correspondent reports, the controversy over the Adarsh Housing society building is deepening with the list of flat owners showing the the name of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's late monther-in-law and others not entitled to it. Meanwhile, it is reported that Chavan has been summoned to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi today.
