Action underway to finalise components of Phase-Two of Coastal Security Scheme: Ramachandran

The government has said that following the Mumbai terror attacks last year, various steps have been taken to strengthen coastal security. The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. M Ramachandran today informed the Rajya Sabha that the coastal states and union territories have carried out massive vulnerability and gap analysis jointly with Coast Guard to firm up their additional requirements. The Minister said action is underway to finalise the components of Phase-Two of the Coastal Security Scheme into a uniform format applicable to the needs of all the coastal states and union territories. He said that the government has always accorded highest priority to the coastal security. Mr. Ramachandran informed the Elders that an integrated Coastal Security Scheme with an outlay of 400 crore rupees for non-recurring expenses and 151 crore rupees for recurring expenses is presently under implementation. He said, under this scheme, assistance is being provided to nine coastal states and four coastal Union Territories to set up 73 coastal police stations, 97 check posts, 58 outposts and 30 operational barracks.<br/>
