The Home Minister, Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde has said that action has been initiated on making the Communal Violence Prevention Control and Rehabilitation of Victims Bill a law to protect minorities.
He however did not specify whether the Bill will be tabled in the winter session of Parliament.
Speaking in the same voice, Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan said the proposed Bill provides for total rehabilitation programme for victims of communal violence.
Earlier, the senior Congress leader, Digvijay Singh said that the Government proposes to bring the Bill in a bid to fulfill its election promise.
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvy said that the ruling party wants to bring the Bill close on the heels of General Election to reap electoral dividends.
