The Prime Minister has asked the CBI to act without fear or favour and bring all those guilty to book irrespective of their positions. Inaugurating the new headquarters of CBI in New Delhi today Dr.Manmohan Singh said the handling of high profile cases constitutes a litmus test for CBI officers.He said the CBI has set a benchmark for other investigating agencies in the country to emulate but there is room for improvement. Emphasizing government's commitment to provide manpower, finances and technology to the premier investigating agency he said the government is also committed to give the bureau the necessary independence and operational flexibility. Dr. Singh said, the government has decided to establish 71 additional special courts for CBI of which 64 have been sanctioned but only 16 are operational. Dr. ManmohanSingh said over the years the CBI has evolved as the premier investigating agency of the country and there is a loud clamour for investigations to be handed over to it.Minister of State V Narayansamy said, government is committed to zero tolerance on corruption. He also said work is on to upgrade the resource base of CBI.
