In West Bengal, 86 per cent polling was recorded for the 4th phase of Assembly polls in the State. The voting was held in 83 seats covering East Midnapur, Howrah, Hooghly and parts of Burdwan districts on Tuesday. The polling percentage was recorded in Howrah 80, Hooghly 83, East Midnapur 90 and in Burdwan 89 per cent which were higher than last Assembly elections. The State Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Sunil Gupta told in Kolkata on Tuesday evening that polling passed of peacefully barring few stray incidents. Seven presiding officers and four polling officers were removed from duties for violations of Model Code of Conduct and for illness. Meanwhile, campaigning for 5th phase of Assembly elections has gained momentum. The poll will take place in 38 seats in parts of West Midnapur, Prulia, Bankura and in remaining areas of Burdwan district on next Saturday.
