The government today said an unprecedented enthusiasm and overwhelming response is being generated among the people towards the Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign since its launch on 15th of this month. <br/><br/>Speaking at National Media Consultation on 'Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign' in New Delhi, Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Parameswaran Iyer elisted its success, saying that about 41 lakh people have joined themselves with this Campaign in just three days. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation said, five States Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana and Uttarakhand have become Open Defecation Free- ODF. He also informed that 10 more States are set to become ODF by March next year. He said that almost 200 districts and 2.39 villages have become ODF. He said, in Urban areas, 1286 cities have been declared ODF. Focusing about the progress of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Rural areas, Mr Iyer said, 4.6 crore household toilets have been constructed so far. He said, since the launch of this Abhiyan in 2014, the sanitation coverage have increased from 39 percent to 67.5 percent. <br/><br/>He said, yesterday Seva Diwas was organised under it which saw a mobilisation of about 21 lakh people who did shramdan in varous cleanliness activities. Mr Iyer said, under the Campaign, cleanliness activities are being undertaken at public places, hospitals and other places. <br/><br/>As per a survey conducted, he said of toilets in 1.40 lakh households, the percentage usage of toilets is 91 percent which is very encouraging.
