In Uttar Pradesh, about 39 percent polling has taken place in first six hours till 1 PM for fourth phase of three tier local body polls. Voting was started from 7 in the morning and it will be continued to 6 in the evening. In Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Mahoba and Sonebhadra districts voting was started from 0630 in the morning and it will be concluded at 1730 in the evening due to security reasons.AIR Allahabad Correspondent reports that maximum above 44 percent voters have exercised their franchise in Ambedkar Nagar district and minimum about 31 percent turnout is reported in Naxal hit Sonebhadra. Voting is going on under tight security at Ghaziabad and Jhansi Municipal Corporations and 136 Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchayats spread over 16 districts. Political fate of 14580 candidates including 5307 women will be decided in today`s polling.Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party have fielded their candidates while ruling Samajwadi Party and main opposition Bahujan Samaj Party have not put candidates on their election symbol.The State Election Commission has made massive security arrangements for free and fair poll. The Commission has also deployed observers for each poll bound districts to ensure independent polling. Directions have been issued for taking effective measures to prevent post poll violence and security forces and magistrates should be deployed in trouble prone areas.Counting of votes for all four phases of elections will be held on July 7.
