Athletes bound for Rio Olympics, including India's opening ceremony flag-bearer Abhinav Bindra and wrestling ace Yogeshwar Dutt, hailed the send-off given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Modi interacted players individually and wished luck to them for Olympics at a function in New Delhi yesterday.India's lone individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra said for the first time ever there is a send-off by Prime Minister for the Olympic Team. He said what a great gesture respect.London Olympics bronze medallist grappler Yogeshwar said it was great gesture from our Honourable Prime Minister to wish athletes personally. He said something like this has never happened and it's a great encouragement for all of us.Thanking the Prime Minister for his support, young boxer Shiva Thapa wrote on his twitter handle, great to meet our Honourable Prime Minister and thank you for all your support, jai hind. Two-time World championship bronze medallist shuttler PV Sindhu called the meeting motivating.Gagan Narang, Jitu Rai, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, archers Atanu Das, track and field athletes Inderjeet Singh, Sudha Singh, Lalita Babar, and table tennis players Mouma Das and Manika Batra were also present at the function.India is sending its biggest ever contingent at the Rio Olympics with more than 100 players having qualified for the Games so far.
