Abdullah questions legitimacy of Karzai declared as President; Karzai to form Govt. in next three days

In Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has said that the decision of announcing Mr. Hamid Karzai as elected President has no legal basis but refrained from questioning the legitimacy of government saying it is upon people to decide. <br/>Addressing a press conference in Kabul today, Dr. Abdullah said he will not join Karzai’s government and will continue with the agenda of change. The former foreign minister had withdrew from second round of elections scheduled this Saturday which led to incumbent President being declared reelected. <br/>Meanwhile, a Presidential spokesman Mr. Siamak Herawi said that the new government will be formed within the next three weeks adding that it will include technocrats and reformist ministers. The Afghan President had said yesterday that his new government will be of unity consisting of all groups within his country. <br/>Mr. Karzai is under lot of pressure from UN and western nations to tackle corruption and improve governance in his new term. The developments came as five British soldiers were killed by a suspected policeman in southern Helmand Province. <br/>British Ministry of Defence said in London that an Afghan policeman the forces were training opened fire which also injured six other soldiers. A police official in the area said it was not clear if the attacker was a member of Taliban group, or there was some kind of personal motivation behind his act.<br/>
