In Afghanistan, political crisis looms large as there are indications that Dr. Abdullah may withdraw from second round of elections scheduled for next Saturday. A campaign manager in Dr. Abdullah team in capital Kabul told AIR that an announcement in this regard will be made tomorrow but did not confirm whether it will be withdrawal of candidature or boycott of elections. Dr. Abdullah decision comes as deadline for meeting his demands including removal of election commission chief, expires today which Afghan incumbent President and election commission have rejected. A member in Mr. Hamid Karzai campaign team said that election commission will decide the outcome in case of Dr. Abdullah’s withdrawal adding that boycott of elections will be unconstitutional. Mr. Moin Marastial, a Parliamentarian asserted that Dr. Abdullah has realized that he cannot win the elections under any circumstances while the latter’s team is insisting that polling can not be free of fraud until their conditions are met.<br/>The MP said that Afghan President has ruled out any power sharing deal till outcome of second round of elections are known. Meanwhile, country’s chief electoral officer has said second round of election is unavoidable and withdrawal is not acceptable. First round results had reduced Mr. Karzai’s vote-share below 50 per cent following<br/>invalidation of suspected fraudulent votes and pressure of western nations for a runoff between top two contenders.<br/>
