In Odisha, the Maoists are expected to release the abducted Biju Janta Dal MLA, Jhina Hikaka today. The tribal MLA is likely to be released at 10 this morning at Balipeta in Maoist-hit Narayanpatna of Koraput district. In an audio message and leader of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of the CPI Maoist said they have agreed to release their hostage with the condition that Hikaka will resign as an MLA and disassociate himself with all activities of his party, the Biju Janata Dal.Meanwhile, the Odisha government has said it has no information about the release of Mr Hikaka. Odisha Home Secretary, UN Behera, said he came to know about it from the media. He, however, welcomed the decision of the Maoists and once again appealed to them to release the MLA in good health and unhurt as the family members of the tribal MLA are in great distress. He said, the state government will not go back from its commitments given to the Maoists for the release of the MLA.The Odisha Government has announced that it will withdraw cases against 13 under-trial prisoners of CPI-Maoists and the Maoist-backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh.The BJD MLA was kidnapped by Maoists in his home district of Koraput on 24th of last month.
