Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Israeli President Shimon Peres in New York with, and discussed in the latest developments the peace process. According to official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Mr. Abbas is in New York to Participates in the UN General Assembly Session where he will deliver a speech on efforts to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land since 1967 to create an independent Palestinian state. Meanwhile Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas has said that he will not take part in US-backed peace talks for a single day if Israel does not extend a freeze on settlement building at the month's end. He told AFP in New York that the negotiations will continue as long as the settlement construction remains frozen. The Palestinian leader's comments came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told ministers the settlement moratorium will end as planned.
