The Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal today met Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung to inform him of his party's decision to form a government in New Delhi. Mr. Kejriwal had announced the decision after the party's Political Affairs committe meeting held this morning at Ghaziabad. Party Leader Manish Sisodia announced that Arvind Kejriwal has been chosen by the party to be the Chief Minister of Delhi. He also said, if the Lt. Governor permits oath taking ceremony of the party will be held at Jantar Mantar.
Earlier, speaking to the media, Mr. Kejriwal said, a majority of the people had favoured government formation by the Aam Aadmi party in the referendum held over the weekend. The referendum had sought response from the public through SMS, Interactive Voice Response System, emails and public meetings.
The Congress Party had extended outside support to the AAP to form a government in Delhi. The BJP, which emerged as the single largest party with 31 seats in the 70 member Assembly, had declined the Lt Governor's offer to form a government in absence of a clear majority. The Lt. Governor had then invited AAP, the second largest party, which bagged 28 seats to form the government following which Aaam Aadmi Party leader Kejriwal had sought a referendum seeking public opinion.
