AAP seeks ten days time from Lt. Governor of Delhi to discuss government formation in Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party, AAP, has sought ten days time from the Lt. Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung to discuss government formation in national capital Delhi. Party leader Arvind Kejriwal after meeting Mr Jung in New Delhi this morning told media that his party have written letters to both Congress and BJP Presidents asking if they will support AAP unconditionally on Janlokpal and party's manifesto. Mr Kejriwal said, once AAP gets response from both parties, it will take public opinion over the issue. He added that his party was surprised that both BJP and Congress offering support to them.

AAP, the second largest party in the Delhi elections, on Friday night rejected Congress offer of support to form a government. Congress had sent a letter to the Lt. Governor, offering unconditional support to AAP. Soon after Congress' offer, top AAP leaders met in Ghaziabad late Friday night and decided to reject the offer.

The largest party, the BJP with 31 seats, has declined to claim any stake to forming the government in Delhi, saying it favours fresh polls.

Earlier, Kejriwal had given to Jung the copies of the letters he had written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and BJP President Rajnath Singh seeking their views on a list of 18 issues that included ending VIP culture in the capital, audit of electricity companies and removal of MLA local funds scheme.

Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, whom AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal met, has said he will send a report to the President, an indication that he would tell the Centre that government formation will not be possible now.

In a surprise move, Congress had on Friday night extended unconditional support of its eight MLAs to AAP for forming the next government.

While the single largest party BJP with 31 MLAs had declined to from the government, the second big party AAP with 28 seats has been saying that it would not take from or give support to Congress and BJP in government formation.
