Aam Admi Party MLA, M S Dhir has been elected as Speaker of Delhi Assembly. Pro-tem Speaker Mateen Ahmad announced this in the House after voice vote.

Dhir defeated his BJP rival Jagdish Mukhi. M S Dhir got 37 votes while BJP candidate got 32. Dhir was also backed by the 7 Congress MLAs and lone JD (U) MLA and one Independent.

Immediately after his election to the post, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and leader of Opposition, Dr. Harshvardhan greeted Dhir and wished him good luck.
