Aam Admi Party has urged President Pranab Mukherjee not to accept Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's advice to invite BJP to form a government in Delhi.
A party delegation led by its convenor, Arvind Kejriwal met Mr. Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan this evening and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Kejriwal said that he told President, if the Aaam Admi Party and Congress will not support BJP then how can it form government in the national capital. He also demanded dissolution of assembly saying fresh polls are the only option for the formation of new government .
The AAP leader said BJP always maintained that it can not form government as it does not have the requisite numbers.
Replying to a question about the use of secret ballot during the confidence motion in the assembly, Kejriwal said it is not possible and there is no such rule.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said BJP will take a call once formal proposal is received from the LG to form a government. Talking to reporters in Jammu, Singh, however, said his party will never form a government through horse-trading.
Reacting to the recent developments, Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said, it is not understandable how BJP will form the government as it lacks the numbers as well as BJP leaders are saying they will not indulge in horse-trading. He also demanded fresh polls in the city.
Presently, Delhi is under President's rule and assembly under suspended animation following resignation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in February.
BJP, along with its ally Akali Dal's one MLA, has 29 MLAs in the 70 member Assembly and it requires support of five more legislators to prove majority in the House. AAP has 27 MLAs after expulsion of one rebel MLA from the party. Congress has eight MLAs and one each is from JD(U) and Independent.
