Aadhaar Card: 'No agency linked to any foreign entity engaged to process collected data'

Government today clarified, no agency linked to any foreign entity has been engaged to process the data collected for Aadhaar Card. Communication and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad assured Rajya Sabha during question hour, the personal data of beneficiaries of Aadhaar Card is encrypted and thus safe and secure. He said, the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act, 2000 have been amended suitably to include penal provisions for identity theft or breach by any private player involved in its collection and processing. <br/><br/>The Minister said, two data centres of Aadhaar Cards are in India – Bengaluru and Manesar, on the outskirts of Delhi.<br/>The government has introduced the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Bill 2016 in Parliament to give legal sanctity to Aadhaar cards. It is currently being debated in Lok Sabha.
