A woman diplomat of Indian High Commission in Islamabad arrested on espionage charges

A woman diplomat working in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad has been arrested in New Delhi on espionage charges. It is alleged that she was passing on information to Pakistani intelligence agencies. The accused, Madhuri Gupta, was arrested four days back after she was summoned to New Delhi. <br/><br/>The officer, a Second Secretary working in the Mission for nearly three years, was passing on information from the Mission to her contacts in ISI. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Ministry of External affairs has confirmed that the official in the High Commission of India in Islamabad had been passing information to the Pakistani Intelligence Agencies. The statement issued in New Delhi this evening said, the matter is currently under investigation and the Official is cooperating with the inquiries.<br/><br/>The External Affairs Ministry spokesman said that it has reasons to believe that the official concerned working in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had been passing information to the Pakistani Intelligence Agencies. <br/><br/>The spokespersons said that the matter is currently under investigation. He also added that the official is cooperating with the inquiries.
