A K Antony reiterates no misunderstanding between him & army

Defence Minister A K Antony today reiterated that there is no misunderstanding or confrontation between him and the Army.

Speaking to media persons after taking part in the Investiture Ceremony of the Coast Guard at Fort Kochi, the Defence Minister indicated that corruption will not be tolerated even if it meant slight delays in defence procurement.

He said the government's effort is to ensure transparency and added that all complaints will be looked into, and strong steps will be taken if any complaint is found to be genuine.

Stating that the national interest is paramount for the Defence forces, he said the government is pursuing a policy of no cover up and no vendetta with regard to defence procurement.

Mr Antony said 146 radar stations will be set up as part of the exercise to beef up coastal security through out the country. Of these four are being established in Kerala, while six will be in Lakshadweep. He said the capacity of the Coast Guard will be doubled within the next five years.

Earlier, the Defence Minister gave away Tatrakshak medals to 30 Coast Guard officers at the Investiture ceremony.
