In Assam, a high level security meet is underway in Guwahati to chalk out plan to counter insurgent groups in the run up to the Republic day. Senior officials said that the army, CRPF and police along with Home department officials are taking part in the meet.
The Assam government has convened the meeting after the National Democratic Front of Bodoland ,NDFB-Sangbijit faction killed 9 persons during last 48 hours. Official sources said that militants gunned down one person and injured four at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district today. NDFB also killed a shopkeeper last night at Manglajohra in Dhubri district last night. IGP, L R Bishnoi said that two additional companies of security force have been deployed in Chirang and Kokrajhar districts to keep an eye on railway tracks. Security has already been beefed up at vulnerable areas.
The army and other security forces have launched combing operation against militants.Police arrested 10 persons yesterday in connection with the firing incident in Kokrajhar district. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed the DGP to intensify operation against the militants.
