A Court in Italy has sentenced nine German men, now in their 80s and 90s, to life imprisonment for killing hundreds of civilians during World War II. The Court found defendants, who were tried in absentia, guilty of murdering more than 140 in the Medina region in 1944 as well as other massacres in northern Italy. The operation was to crush the Italian resistance movement. Three other accused died during the trial.
