Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the 98th Indian Science Congress at SRM University near Chennai on Monday morning. Over 9,000 delegates are expected to take part in the five-day science conclave. Indian Science Congress Association President K.C. Pandey, said that Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Director-General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation V.K. Saraswat will receive the Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Award for his contribution to missile science and technology. Industrialist Ratan Tata will be given the Jawaharlal Nehru prize for his contribution to science and technology, and society. AIR correspondent reports, Chennai will be hosting the congress for the seventh time, 12 years after the last one in 1999. Amartya Sen, V Ramakrishnan, Ada Yonath, would be among the six Nobel laureates to deliver special lectures at the congress which has quality education and excellence in scientific research in Indian universities' as the focal theme. Besides the theme session, there will be 16 plenary sessions on different topics like chemistry of the future, science policy for the next five years, space, climate change, energy security, drugs, therapy and prevention of cancer, biodiversity, recent advances in asthma research. A science exhibition titled Pride of India' will showcase scientific products from government and non-government agencies. The congress will also present the Awards to 27 eminent scientists and Corporate heads.
