The Union Government today said, 14.92 lakh COVID-19 health claims of a total amount of 17,537 crore rupees were lodged with public sector insurance companies, of which 93.3 per cent of claims had been disposed of till 31st of December of last year. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Karad said, public sector insurance companies sustained a total loss of over 3450 crore rupees from April 2020 to September 2021 against the total loss of 7,552 crore rupees during October 2018 to March 2020.<br />''<br />''Dr Karad said, their overall profitability registered an improvement of 4,101 crore rupees during the initial one and a half financial year of the pandemic, despite absorbing the impact of the pandemic in terms of COVID-related claims.
