Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today said, this year 561 incidents of communal violence took place in the country till October this year. 90 people were killed and 1,688 others were injured in the incidents. In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Rijiju,however said, there has a decline of 19 per cent in such incidents as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The Minister said, these incidents are reported to be attributed to religious factors, gender related issues, land and property disputes and other issues. He said, the central government issues alerts and advisories on developments having bearing on communal harmony, share advance intelligence with the states and union territories.
