9 years of Modi Govt: Queen Pineapple brings cheer to Tripura's farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call for ‘Vocal for Local’ to make India self-reliant has gained momentum like never before. Responding to the call of the Prime Minister, the pineapple growers from the North Eastern State of Tripura have been cultivating Queen Pineapple which is giving them a good market.<br />”<br />”The Agriculture department too plays an important role in helping the farmers by allocating a certain amount of funds as well as processing materials required for the staggering process to grow pineapples.<br />”<br />”Akashvani correspondent reports, It was five years ago when then President Ram Nath Kovind who had visited Tripura had declared Queen Pineapple as the state fruit. Tripura earns the distinction for being the largest producer of Queen Pineapple in the country. Some of the key features of Queen Pineapple that differentiate it from other varieties of pineapples are its pleasant aroma, succulent taste and light in weight.<br />”<br />”Talking to Akashvani, a farmer from Tripura, Pintu Sharma, who is also the president of the Farmer Producer Organisation said, pineapple growers have been employing the staggering method to grow the fruit when there is a high demand for it.<br />”<br />”Durga puja is the biggest festival which is celebrated with the highest spree of festivity in the state. There is a huge demand for fruits such as pineapple during the festive season. The pineapple growers catches the staggering method to grasp the buoyant market during Durga Puja.<br />”<br />”Through staggering method, a mixture containing proportionate quantity of sodium carbonate, ethrel and urea are mixed in the plant of pineapple which has 40-45 leaves and is poured in the center of the plant. Later, after 45 days of maturity period flowering begins.<br />”<br />”Some of the areas where, the Queen pineapple is grown in large number are Kamalpur, Bagaichari, Udaipur, Sabroom and several others.<br />”<br />”The thrust on vocal for local is reflected through Queen Pineapple as more and more farmers’ taking up production of this fruit.&nbsp;<br />
