9 years of Modi govt: India’s Self Reliance in Defence Sector

Today, we take a look at the story on the goal of achieving &nbsp;Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence sector.<br />”<br />”Akashvani correspondent reports that the Government has taken several policy initiatives in the past few years under 'Make in India' program and brought in reforms to encourage indigenous design, development and manufacture of defence equipment for promoting self-reliance in defence sector.<br />”<br />”The initiatives taken by the government during the period include according priority to procurement of capital items from domestic sources under Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020, Simplification of the Industrial licensing process with longer validity period and liberalisation of Foreign Direct Investment policy to allow 74 percent FDI under automatic route.<br />”<br />”During his address at the inauguration of Aero India 2023 in &nbsp;Bengaluru in February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the New India of the 21st century will neither miss any opportunity nor will it lack any effort.<br />”<br />”Due to the initiatives taken by the government, the country has registered a record one lakh crore rupees defence production and all-time high defence exports of almost 16 thousand crore rupees in the financial year 2022-23.<br />”<br />”The Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative has also helped reduce expenditure on defence procurement from foreign sources.&nbsp;<br />
