In Jharkhand, nine pilgrims died and eighteen others were injured in a stampede today morning in the famous Thakur Anukul Chandra Ashram of Deoghar. Injured have been admitted in a local hospital. The dead include eight women and they are from Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand. State Chief Minister Arjun Munda has expressed grief over the incident and sanctioned compensation of two lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased and twenty five thousands each for the treatments of the injured. On the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Thakur Ankul Chandra, the Deoghar Ashram has attracted more than two lakhs devotees. The reports suggest that the crowds’ management within the Ashram failed this morning when a large number of devotees had assembled at the prayer hall. The stampede that occurred suddenly left eight women and one man dead. District Administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. But the question people are asking are about providing proper and effective government facilities in a town which annually hosts more than three crores pilgrims on different occasions. The sad coincidence of this tragedy is that it has occurred on a day when Jharkhand has been given a new Inter- City train that will also connect this religious town with the state capital Ranchi.
