In Jharkhand, nine Pilgrims have been killed and fifteen injured in a stampede in an Ashram at the religious town of Deoghar. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. The dead are from Bihar and Odisha and include eight women and one child. Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has expressed grief over the incident and sanctioned a compensation of two lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased. He said, the cost of treatment of the injured would be incurred by the state government.’The famous Ashram of Thakur Anukul Chandra in Deoghar has attracted more than two lakhs devotees on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Thakur Ankul Chandra. But the initial information suggests that the crowds management within the Ashram failed this morning when a large number of devotees had assembled at the prayer hall, after which the stampede followed leaving eight women and one child dead.Although the District Administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident, a question remains alive about providing proper and effective government facilities in a town which attracts more than three crores pilgrims every year. The sad incident has occurred on a day when Jharkhand is being given a new inter- city train that will also connect the religious town with the state capital Ranchi.
